Boundless, an events and experiences club for public sector workers, has won Best employer and Best health and safety at the 2018 Best Business Awards.
The Brighton-based organisation was commended by a panel of independent judges for putting people at the heart of its cultural transformation over the last four years.
Sir Michael Lockett, chairman of the judging panel, said: “Boundless has seen startling results after undergoing a cultural transformation and becoming people-focused. By creating a work environment that encourages people to do their best, profits, staff engagement, new memberships and customer retention have soared to new highs.”
He added: “The most effective changes are to communicate the [organisation's] strategy to staff and encourage them to reach their full potential. The restructuring and empowerment of staff has revitalised Boundless and given it a new lease of life.”
Boundless, founded as the Civil Service Motoring Association (CSMA) 95 years ago, has 230,000 members and offers public sector and civil service employees experiences, discounts and deals for their free time, and owns and operates several leisure retreats across the UK.
Carl Fillery (pictured), chief executive officer of Boundless, said: “It’s an honour to receive these awards. Four years ago, we embarked on a journey of cultural transformation with the aim of creating a work environment that was more human, nurturing and caring.
“With our people at the very heart of this process, we have doubled employee engagement. I’m so proud of our team and the outstanding contribution they have made to our organisation.”
Commenting on the organisation winning the health and safety award, Lockett said: “Boundless has placed health and safety at the heart of the organisation at directorship level and taken exactly the right action to protect the safety of staff and clients in a leisure and activity environment.”
The Best Business Awards are open to private, public and third-sector organisations, with four rounds each year. Winners for each year hold their titles for 12 months.
