Recruitment firm Hays has received menopause-friendly accreditation in recognition of its commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive and empathetic workplace.
The accreditation, which was established by Henpicked: Menopause In The Workplace, requires employers to demonstrate effectiveness in culture, policies and practices, training, engagement and working environment.
Hays was recognised due to its introduction of webinars, panel discussions, and leadership training to increase understanding and empathy around menopause across the organisation, a dedicated menopause support group and Microsoft Teams channel as a safe, accessible space for peer-to-peer connection and support, and expert-led sessions and resources for all employees to provide insights and practical guidance.
It was also praised for its introduction of a menopause policy and a dedicated sickness code for both menopause and menstruation to offer appropriate, inclusive hormone health support, and the championing of menopause awareness and driving cultural change from senior leaders and board members.
These have not only improved the experience of those affected by the menopause, but also encouraged open conversations, stories and leadership engagement to break down stigma and build a more empathetic workplace.
As part of its aim to embed menopause awareness and support, and create a comprehensive and inclusive approach, Hays has listened to employees’ lived experiences through surveys, focus groups and anonymous feedback. Menopause is embedded within its diversity, equity, inclusion and wellbeing strategy, with support integrated into onboarding for new starters.
Hannah Pearsall, head of wellbeing at Hays UK and Ireland, said: “Through our ongoing efforts, we’ve created a more supportive and inclusive environment for all employees, but we know this is an evolving journey. We remain deeply committed to enhancing our support for those experiencing menopause and hormone health symptoms. Looking ahead, we’re focused on developing our training, evolving our menopause drop in, and building on our menopause work to include menstruation and men’s hormone health. By listening to our employees and acting on their feedback, we aim to ensure our support remains robust, relevant, and truly impactful.”
