Retailer Primark has reported a mean gender pay gap of 13.5% for 2024, down 1.7% from 2023.
The organisation’s median gender pay gap for 2024 was 0.8%, down from 1.4% in 2023. Its upper pay quartile comprises 59.8% women and 40.2% men, while its lower pay quartile is 75.6% female and 24.4% male.
Primark’s 2024 mean gender bonus gap is 47.3%, an increase of 5.1% from 2023, and its median gender bonus gap is 36.4%, a 5.1% increase from the year prior. A total of 1.8% of women and 5.7% of men received a bonus that year.
According to the retailer, when compared to previous years, its pay gaps continue to be driven by a higher proportion of women in hourly-paid customer-facing roles, and a higher proportion of men in senior roles, that typically have a higher bonus opportunity.
The employer has four global employee networks that are intended to create safe spaces for people to share their lived experiences, as well as harnessing understanding to enhance products, evolve processes and strengthen strategies. The networks focus on: life stages and gender, cultural diversity, disability and neurodiversity, and LGBTQIA+, and have 540 members across 15 markets.
Paul Marchant, chief executive of Primark, said: “While we have much to celebrate, we know we still have more work to do. We continue to prioritise inclusion in our business, to listen and to learn, so that we can keep moving forward. We listen to our staff and customers, and we know how important it is to create an environment where everyone feels included, empowered and able to be their authentic selves every day. We want our employees to have a voice in how we continue to shape the culture of our business and create a place where everyone belongs.”
