Sainsbury’s has reported a 7.5% mean gender pay gap for 2024, down from 8.4% in 2023.

The supermarket’s median gender pay gap was 6.1%, down slightly from 6.7% in 2023. Its upper pay quartile comprises 36.5% female and 63.5% male employees, compared to 36.2% and 63.8% in 2023. Meanwhile, its lower pay quartile consists of 67.1% female and 32.9% male staff, compared to 67.3% and 32.7% the previous year.

Sainsbury’s mean gender bonus gap was 43.4%, a slight change from 43.8% in 2023, and its median gender bonus gap was zero, compared to 14.3% the year prior. A total of 69.1% female and 65.6% male employees received a bonus payment that year.

The organisation’s mean ethnicity pay gap was -3.4%, compared to -2.9% in 2023, and its median ethnicity pay gap was -5.8%, a slight change from -5.4% the year prior. Its upper pay quartile comprises 68% white and 32% ethnically diverse employees, compared to 71.9% and 28.1% in 2023. Meanwhile, its lower pay quartile consists of 89.7% white and 10.3% ethnically diverse staff, compared to 90.8% and 9.2% the previous year.

Its mean ethnicity bonus gap in 2024 was 41.1%, down from 36.4% the previous year, and its median ethnicity bonus gap was 9.9%, down from 14.3%. A total of 70.4% of white and 59.4% of ethnically diverse employees received a bonus payment that year.
