Brentford Football Club has reported a 53% mean and a 17% median gender pay gap for 2024.
When players are excluded from the data, the mean gender pay gap stands at 54%, while the median gender pay gap is 17%. Its mean gender bonus gap for 2024 was 84% and its median gender bonus gap was 30%, while 62% of men and 65% of women received a bonus payment that year.
A total of 76% of staff are male and 24% are female, with the club’s upper pay quartile comprising 87% men and 31% women and the lower pay quartile being 69% male and 31% female.
The figures include first team management and coaching backroom staff and highlight that there are significantly more men than women at senior levels.
For its off-field staff only, the club’s mean gender pay gap for 2024 was 29% and its median gender pay gap was 10%. Its mean gender bonus gap for 2024 was 28% and its median gender bonus gap was zero, while 64% of men and 67% of women received a bonus payment that year.
A total of 68% of its off-field staff are male and 32% are female, with its upper pay quartile consisting of 77% men and 23% women and the lower pay quartile comprising 62% men and 38% women.
According to the club, the data aims to provide an explanation of its figures, its approach to recruitment and its inclusion policies.
Jon Varney, chief executive at Brentford Football Club, said: “As a club, we are continuing to grow, and this includes an overall increase in female staff at the club. We have seen improvements in senior representation off-field and in our pipeline on-field. However, as a club with a relatively small staff base, we will not rest on our laurels and will continue to focus on the attraction, recruitment, progression and retention of female talent going forward.”
