Something for the weekend: A London-based family has begun its search for a tutor to help turn their one-year-old baby into “an English gentleman”. Intrigued? So were we!
The job advert stated that the family hope their son will be accepted at Eton, St Paul’s, Westminster or Harrow schools, and believe it is important that his education prepares him for this by being exposed to “quintessentially British experiences” to hone his habits, outlooks, tastes and sporting preferences.
The tutor must be an early years specialist and committed to fostering a quintessentially English, culturally enriching early learning environment. They should be well-educated and speak with a received pronunciation accent. A second language will be looked upon favourably, because the family is multilingual.
They must be comfortable incorporating regular musical activities, exploring music and rhythm, and have reasonable music theory. Age-appropriate understanding of cricket, tennis, rugby, equestrian, polo and rowing is encouraged, while they suggest incorporating museums, art galleries and theatre visits into his education. The local park, café or library can help for learning colours, numbers, letters, stories, flavours and music.
The successful applicant will need to be qualified to support the educational and developmental needs of children from ultra-high-net-worth and royal families, and have prior experience travel tutoring and working with young children on bespoke, holistic learning programmes.
The family is looking for a candidate who is culturally astute, well-travelled and fluent in English, with an understanding of confidentiality and security protocols. They should be accustomed to adapting to family schedules across multiple residences and liaising with other household staff to ensure continuity of care and learning.
The tutor must be fit, healthy and a non-smoker, with a love for the outdoors and paediatric first aid training. They will work 10am to 3pm, with additional preparation time, for 35 hours per week. They will primarily work weekdays, occasional weekends and have two days off each week.
The salary is £180,000 per annum and they will receive four weeks off per annum. This is for 12 months initially and is potentially renewable for many years.
The job advert stated: “At this young stage, the child is too young to have developed any kind of cultural bias, which makes it the perfect time to begin exposing him to the activities and knowledge which will set him on a course to dual culturalism.”
Sounds like quite the role, with some good perks too!
