Nuclear Decommissioning Authority period

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) has introduced complimentary period products in its Cumbria and Warrington offices to help tackle period poverty.

Through a partnership with social enterprise Hey Girls, period products will be available to any NDA employee who needs them. It is part of a drive to ensure its workspaces are welcoming, inclusive and safe places for staff, and to create positive change in the communities in which it operates.

In addition, for every product NDA orders, one is also donated to community partners such as local charity the Whitehaven Community Trust in order to support people across the region.

NDA plans to roll out the partnership more widely across its group of organisations, with Sellafield and Nuclear Waste Services in Cumbria due to have products available over the next few months.

Claire Renney, health and wellbeing manager at NDA, said: “We first got in touch with Hey Girls as part of our drive to be a menopause-friendly employer. Periods can often become more unpredictable as people move towards menopause so accessible products are important.

“Being an inclusive workplace brings huge benefits, for both staff and employers. We are committed to taking positive action so all our NDA employees are supported and feel their very best at work. It’s wonderful the partnership has also enabled us to support the wider community and do our bit to address period poverty across Cumbria.”
