Institute of Directors, Gentoo and L&Q have been named as some one of the UK’s Best Workplaces in Charity and Not-For-Profit 2025.
Great Place To Work UK used its trust index employee survey and analysed responses of charity and not-for-profit sector employees to determine the Best Workplaces list. The surveys asked employees how their work-life balance, sense of fulfilment, job satisfaction, psychological safety and financial security are supported, along with consistency of employee experience.
It found that 86% of employees feel a sense of pride when they look at what they accomplish and 87% are proud to tell others where they work.
Institute of Directors was recognised due to its flexibility in working arrangements, its staff bonus scheme based on business performance rather than individuals, its mental health first aiders, wellbeing days, and free wellbeing and fitness programmes available via its reward platform.
The trust index survey revealed that staff believe the goal of educating and empowering directors through the organisation’s programmes helps them feel like their work is making the world better, and that it cares about individuals as well as the business’ overall success.
Benedict Gautrey, managing director of Great Place To Work UK, said: “The UK’s Best Workplaces in Charity and Not-for-Profit are committed to building cultures where their people are as valued as their purpose. By promoting work-life balance, supporting mental health, and offering sufficient flexibility, these organisations ensure colleagues can thrive while making a meaningful impact.”
Jonathan Geldart, director general at the Institute of Directors, added: “We are immensely proud to be recognised as one of the UK’s Best Workplaces in Charity and Not-for-Profit. We believe that creating a supportive and inspiring environment for our colleagues goes hand-in-hand with the value we deliver to our members. Through initiatives such as our chartered director programme, we see first-hand the impact that professional growth, integrity and purpose can have. That same commitment to development and wellbeing is reflected within our own culture, and this award is a testament to that and the work of our people.”
