Crisis and Homeless Oxfordshire are collaborating with volunteering and eco-action platform OnHand for a webinar on November 9th at 11.30am after new government figures show an 18% increase in people sleeping on the streets.
The webinar provides a unique opportunity for employers to engage their people in doing good this winter. It’s open to the public and aims to shed light on homelessness in the UK while providing actionable advice on how you and your people can make a difference right away.
The event follows the release of new data from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, which shows there were 2,893 people estimated to be sleeping rough on a single night in June 2023 – up 445 people or 18% since the same period last year.
Attendees who are signed up for OnHand can use insights from the webinar and turn them into impact immediately by picking up volunteering missions and making monetary donations through the app. Covering both education and action, the event is a must-attend for any employer who wants their people to take part in the fight against homelessness.
Liz Choonara, Executive Director of Commerce and Enterprise at Crisis, will shed light on housing, innovation and policy at the highest level, using Crisis’s decades of experience and research to explain the big-picture causes and solutions for homelessness at a national level.
Simon Hewett-Avison, CEO at Homeless Oxfordshire, will share the day-to-day realities of homelessness on the frontline, the effects of nationwide cost-of-living crises and housing crises on individuals at a local level, and how the current climate could make homelessness a reality for people who never imagined they’d be at risk.
