Care provider Methodist Homes (MHA) has received living wage employer accreditation due to its commitment to supporting its workforce.
After paying its employees the real living wage rate or higher for eight years, the organisation has now received formal recognition from the Living Wage Foundation, which sets the rate each year based on the actual cost of living. For those across the UK, the rate is £13.45 per hour, and for those in London, it is £14.80 per hour.
MHA decided to pay its employees at least the real living wage rate to reduce stress and support their financial wellbeing. The rate aligns with its values and reflects its belief that the people who support and care for older adults deserve to feel valued, respected and supported in the pay they take home.
According to the organisation, the accreditation is a public statement of who it is as a charity and that paying a wage that reflects the real cost of living is a way to honour the everyday contribution of its employees.
Cathryn Taylor, director of people and communications for MHA, said: “As one of the largest care providers in England, we hope our leadership encourages others in the sector to follow suit. Fair pay strengthens the workforce, improves care and, ultimately, benefits the whole community.
“When our employees feel respected and secure, the quality of care they provide is stronger. It also means we can retain talented people, giving residents and members the continuity and trusted relationships they deserve. This accreditation is a milestone, but it’s also a reminder of our responsibility. We’ll continue investing in our people so they can continue delivering the exceptional care older adults trust us to provide.”
