Something for the weekend: American singer Alecia Moore, known professionally as Pink, has revealed that her daughter will be working a minimum wage job while she travels and performs with her on tour this year.
Pink stated on US television chat show 'The Today Show' that her 11-year-old daughter Willow and six-year-old son Jameson were set to join her on tour for her ninth studio album, and that Willow will receive payments for performing.
Speaking to hosts Savannah Guthrie and Carson Daly, Pink explained that she recently taught her daughter about working minimum wage jobs, as she had yet to grasp the concept of negotiating salaries.
Pink said: “Willow has a job on tour. We just had to go over minimum wage and it’s different state to state. I said it’s about $22.50 [£18.72] a show depending how long I go, if I run over. She goes, ‘I’ll take $20 [£16.64]. It’s easier to do the math.’ I’m like, ‘That’s not how you negotiate for yourself.’ I’m like, ‘You’ll take $25 [£20.80] so it’s easier math.’”
Pink’s tour has been scheduled to begin in the UK on 7 June, and her first stop in the US is in Cincinnati, Ohio on 26 July, with dates going up to March 2024.
The current minimum wage rate in Ohio is $10.10 (£8.40) an hour, so if Pink’s Cincinnati date is two hours long, Willow will be earning above the minimum rate.
Pink is not the first celebrity to use her fame to boost loved ones' income, as Taylor Swift's pet Olivia Benson was recently found to have earned a whopping $97 million (£81.6 million) net worth working by her famous owner's side. Meanwhile, actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry used his millions last October to shower friend and ex-employee Crystal Hayslett with extravagant birthday gifts.
Here at Employee Benefits, we enjoy seeing this responsible Family Portrait of Pink teaching her kids the value of fair pay. We hope that Willow will Try her hardest to negotiate in the future, and maybe she will Get the Party Started when she discovers the joy of fair pay for fair work!
