Something for the weekend: Supermarket chain Iceland has launched a nationwide search for a chicken taster, who will win a £5,000 salary and a year’s supply of chicken.

Its chief chicken officer role will see one individual embark on a behind-the-scenes tour of Iceland with exclusive access to its secret testing kitchen, where they will be given the chance to be the first to sample and review its new chicken range and provide honest feedback. Hope the lucky applicant is peckish for that!

The supermarket is looking for im-peck-able applicants who are bursting with creativity, energy and humour, clucking mad for chicken and love everything from a wing to a thigh, and can distinguish a crispy coating from a soggy crumb.

Those interested in the role need to answer three questions when applying online, which Iceland’s expert judges will review. These are:

1. What is your ultimate chicken flavour combination and why would it rule the roost?

2. If you could create your own Iceland chicken product, what would it be and how would you market it?

3. What is the funniest or wildest or chicken-related story from your life?

The range of perks include an overnight hotel stay, travel to and from Iceland’s head office for an induction, a £5,000 salary and a year’s supply of chicken.

Paul Dhaliwal, chief commercial officer at Iceland Foods, said: “We wouldn’t be surprised if we sell more chicken than KFC, so we’ve plucked up the courage to put our money where our mouth is and advertised this dream opportunity. There’s no fowl play here, just £5,000 and a year’s supply of our biggest and tastiest ever chicken range.”

Sounds like a peck-tacular good opportunity to us at Employee Benefits. Best of cluck to those who enter!
