City and Guilds has introduced an online voluntary discount scheme for employees.

The vocational qualification awarding body introduced the new scheme when it changed flexible benefits providers to Thomsons Online Benefits in August 2010.

The portal, provided by Asperity in partnership with Thomsons, opened to City and Guilds’ 900 UK employees in late November 2010 and gives access to online retail and leisure discounts.

Chris Coyne, group head of reward at City and Guilds, said: “We are always looking for ways of delivering real value to employees, particularly at a time when there is going to be pressure on pay and salary budgets.

"This is a means of giving some very real, tangible savings to people on everything from supermarket shopping through to luxury purchases.”

In its latest enrolment period, which closed at the beginning of December 2010, 87% of eligible employees logged onto the system to review their choices. This is an increase of 16% (from 71%) in 2009.†

City and Guilds introduced a Gym Flex scheme and flexibility around life assurance to its 2010 flexible benefits scheme.
