The benefits offered by Atom Bank.

Pension

  • A group flexible retirement pension scheme for all employees, where eligible from a statutory perspective, with a relief-at-source option where contributions are taken after national insurance and income tax deductions and the pension provider claims basic-rate tax relief, which is added to employees’ pots. Members also have the option to contribute via salary sacrifice.
  • Minimum contributions start at 2% from the employee and 8% from the employer, up to a maximum of 7% employee and 13% employer.

Healthcare and wellbeing 

  • Private medical insurance (PMI) scheme: employer funded. Atom covers the cost of all levels of cover from single to family, employees cover the tax. This provides access to private medical facilities and medical treatments. It also can help to fund the cost of early diagnosis and treatment of acute conditions, for anything from a few sessions of physiotherapy to more complex procedures such as major heart surgery or biological therapy for the treatment of cancer.
  • Health cash plan: employer funded at level one. Atom covers the cost of the benefit, employees cover the tax. As well as support to cover costs relating to dental, optical, hospital visits, prescriptions and so on. this includes an employee assistance programme for mental wellbeing, and high street discounts. Employees have the option to upgrade their cover to a higher level at their own cost.

Group risk

  • Critical illness insurance: employer funded at four-times base salary. All employees are eligible to opt in or out. Atom covers the cost of the benefit, employees cover the tax.

Company car

  • All employees, provided they have passed their probation period, have the option to take advantage of Atom’s electric vehicle (EV) salary sacrifice car scheme.

Work-life balance or family-friendly policies

  • All employees are entitled to a four-day week (34 hours) with no reduction in pay. Typically, employees can choose between a Monday or a Friday off.
  • Enhanced paternity pay: all employees (from day one) are entitled to six weeks paternity leave on full pay.
  • Enhanced maternity and adoption pay: all employees (from day one) are entitled to 26 weeks on full pay followed by 26 weeks on half pay.

Holidays

  • Standard full-time entitlement is 22.5 days, which increases with grade to a maximum of 27 days.
  • Half-day accrual for every two years of service.
  • Employees are able to buy up to one week of holiday per year and sell back any holiday they have bought but not used.

Employee recognition scheme

  • Star (Support, Thanks, Appreciation, Recognition) Awards: employees are actively encouraged to nominate their peers for a Star Award which is a £5 thank you voucher as a result of someone going the extra mile or deserving a pat on the back.
  • Up N Atom Award: the organisation holds quarterly Up N Atom meetings which are business-wide meetings to give employees an update on what is going on in the business. A segment of these meetings is dedicated to reward and recognition and in advance of these meetings, employees are encouraged to nominate employees who have gone above and beyond, making a tangible difference and contribution to the organisation’s strategy. The winners are then announced as part of the meeting and given a prize and a caricature of themselves which is displayed on a wall of fame.

Incentive pay/performance-related pay

  • Share options are offered as standard and more recently, a profit share cash bonus related to individual and company performance. Current employees can choose if they wish to stick with share options or opt into cash; new joiners are automatically enrolled into the profit share scheme.
