Compass Group UK and Ireland has appointed Hilary Goldby HR director for its business and industry sector, as part of its commitment to put people first and to support continued growth.

Goldby will report into Morag Freathy, chief executive officer, and Laraine Kemp, people director, to ensure cohesion with wider Compass Group UK and Ireland strategy.

She will input into the organisation’s five-year strategy and analyse how the people agenda can sit at the heart of delivering excellence. She will work to enhance people’s opportunities through job creation, education, training, community and charitable engagement.

With 19 years’ experience in HR across multiple sectors, Goldby has focused on talent and development, inclusivity programmes and employee engagement. She has held roles at Tesco, GEOAmey and Dixons Carphone.

Goldby said: “I’ve spent time in a lot of businesses of different types across retail, contracting, supply chain and distribution, which has given me a broad view of people strategies. I wanted to come to a business that was both people-centric and ambitious, and I’ve found that in Compass. My role is to nurture and motivate our teams, which will, in turn, ensure we have the best people with the skills to deliver for the business. It’s an exciting remit.”

Freathy added: “This is an exciting appointment at an important time for the business and underlines our determination to put people at the heart of everything we do. We have ambitious plans and Hilary’s experience and strategic acumen are going to be crucial in helping achieve our goals.”
