Missouri state minimum wage

The Missouri Department of Labor has announced a state minimum wage rate of $8.60 (£6.77) per hour for 2019, rising from $7.85 (£6.18) in 2018.

Effective from 1 January 2019, all private employers are required to pay the minimum rate, with the exception of retail and service organisations with annual sales of less than $500,000 (£393,768).

Compensation for tipped employees must also total at least $8.60 an hour. Employers are required to pay them at least 50% of the minimum wage, plus any amount necessary to bring the employee's total compensation to a minimum of $8.60 an hour.

Missouri law requires the state minimum wage to increase by 85 cents each year through to 2023, and does not allow the rate to be lower than the federal minimum wage. The law does not apply to public employers.
