Global law firm Dentons has introduced a MenoVest, a simulator designed to replicate menopause symptoms, as part of its commitment to creating a supportive environment for those experiencing the menopause in the workplace.
The MenoVest is a sleeveless gilet with an integrated power pack that heats up and cools down at irregular intervals while it is worn, to simulate hot flushes and brain fog symptoms. It was featured in an interactive workshop at the law firm’s London office held in collaboration with, Over The Bloody Moon (OTBM), an agency that specialises in menopause support and resources and created the MenoVest.
The workshop, which was led by Dentons’ menopause mentors, was live streamed to more than 100 of its employees across the UK, Ireland and Middle East region. Male volunteers took part to experience the challenges faced by those undergoing the menopause by wearing the MenoVest.
It also included a session with Lesley Salem, founder of OTBM, who discussed the menopause and symptom management options, and a refresher training session for all employees called Menopause Allies. By participating, attendees learned how to better manage symptoms, be alert to unconscious bias, demonstrate allyship, cultivate conversation, and inspire action.
Dentons, which received menopause-friendly accreditation in 2024, aims to demonstrate its commitment to fostering a workplace environment with inclusivity and support, where all employees can thrive.
Karen Peart, legal delivery centre operations manager and co-chair of Dentons’ menopause steering group, said: “I was delighted that we were able to bring this event to Dentons as part of our menopause offering. It is so important that we keep banging the drum and breaking the stigma of talking about menopause in the workplace. I am deeply grateful to our male staff demonstrating genuine curiosity and empathy, true allyship in action.”
Yvonne Garricks, head of talent development and co-chair of Dentons’ menopause steering group, added: “The event was interesting, informative and a great way of raising awareness of the menopause and the importance of allies, particularly male allies. Lesley’s presentation was both engaging and passionate.”
