Banking organisation Standard Chartered, energy supplier Ovo and publishing business Hachette UK have been named as some of The Times Top 50 Employers for Gender Equality 2024.
Business in the Community has created the list for 14 years as part of its work to highlight employers taking action and making gender equality part of their business strategy. Applicants are assessed on the work they do to remove gender inequalities in the workplace, by introducing flexible working, family-friendly policies, reward, and progression at work.
Hachette UK was recognised for its commitment to removing gender inequalities in the workplace, which includes its Gender Balance employee network, flexible options, family-friendly initiatives and inclusive culture.
Ovo was commended for its people offering that encompasses a range of progressive benefits designed to promote wellbeing, flexibility, belonging and inclusivity.
Charlotte Woodworth, gender equality director at Business in the Community, said: “While the employers which made the list are doing great work prioritising gender equality, there is still more work to do. It is every employer’s responsibility to play their part in reducing and removing gender inequalities from the workplace, and research shows this isn’t just the right thing to do, it also makes business sense.”
Saif Malik, chief executive officer UK at Standard Chartered, added: “It is testament to the hard work and commitment we have to creating an inclusive workplace culture for all.”
Lisa Waterman, group HR director at Hachette UK, said: “I am proud to work for a company that champions diversity, equity, and inclusion as part of its mission. We want to ensure we remain actively accountable and that we continue to work diligently to accomplish gender balance across all aspects of our business. To thrive, we must attract and retain the very best talent from a diverse range of backgrounds that authentically reflect our readership and the communities we serve. I’m excited to continue working towards this goal.”
Charlotte Eaton, chief people officer at Ovo, added: “At Ovo, we strive to create a culture that values every single member of our team with care, support and respect, regardless of gender identity. That's why we will always celebrate our people and will continue to champion gender equality and create a place where people truly belong.”
