Power solutions firm Cummins, software service Cisco and Nationwide Building Society have made the Financial Times Diversity Leaders list for 2024.
Aiming to highlight Europe employers that are leading the way in diversity, the annual list is based on comprehensive surveys of employees and workplace experts. In these, employees were given the chance to evaluate their employer’s diversity and inclusion practices and to give their perception of those adopted by other organisations in their industries. The 850 employers who received the highest total scores made the final ranking.
Cummins ranked 78th due to its ongoing commitment to building an inclusive workforce through initiatives focused on nurturing diversity. It enhances awareness and skills by educating employees on cultural competence, valuing differences, and fostering an inclusive environment.
It launched the initiative Cummins Powers Women, as well as a campaign this year on International Women’s Day, to bring together employee resource groups, regional teams, and nonprofit organisations to host events and programmes on gender equality and inclusion.

A Financial Times spokesperson said: “Every year since 2019, we have sought the views of more than 100,000 employees across the continent to create the ranking with Statista of employers that may be considered Europe’s Diversity Leaders. For 2024’s list, we added three objective indicators to this analysis, to bring the results even closer to the reality experienced by employees, and to make our ranking more definitive. The new indicators look at the share of women in management positions, the communications made in favour of diversity, and the diversity score calculated on a scale from zero to 100.”
Desmond McMenamin, Europe regional leader and executive director of Cummins Generator Technologies, added: “We are honoured to be named for the fourth consecutive year, and proud to have reached the top 100 again. This recognition represents our dedication to nurturing a diverse and inclusive workplace that empowers our employees to reach their full potential and fuels innovation in an increasingly competitive marketplace. Embracing diverse perspectives not only drives business strength but also enhances our ability to adapt, thrive and grow. We are committed to furthering our mission with training and initiatives that promote an inclusive culture and remove barriers.”
