Global science organisation DuPont has launched a new paid parental leave policy for its 33,400 worldwide staff, providing at least four weeks of fully-paid leave.

The policy allows new birth, adoptive, or same-sex parents to take up to four weeks of leave at full pay in order to care for a newborn. This leave can be taken continuously at one time or can be used intermittently during the child’s first year. The policy is also applicable for each child an employee has, not just for their first baby.

The new policy, which was announced on 14 May 2019, has been introduced to provide a global minimum level of parental leave that will apply for all employees across the business.

The paid parental leave benefit will be effective from 1 June 2019 for employees based in the United States; the policy will then be rolled out to all global locations by the end of 2020. DuPont operates across North America, Asia Pacific (APAC), Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Latin America (LATAM).

Birth mothers working at DuPont will also benefit from the organisation’s enhanced paid maternity leave provision, which has been extended to offer up to 12 weeks of paid leave.

Marc Doyle, chief executive officer elect at DuPont and chief operating officer at DowDuPont, speciality products division, said: “We are proud of our employees and when they become a new parent, we are excited to help them thrive at work and at home.

“Great [organisations] care about their employees. This policy demonstrates that we care about our employees’ wellbeing, empowering them with the flexibility to make it easier to choose both family and career. What’s more, it will enhance our ability to attract and retain top talent and lead to the continued success of our [business] as we transform our workplace.”
