Beverley Hamblet-Bowes: How do you encourage employees to use green commuting options?

Sustainability is important for us at Nominet; we are committed to reducing the negative impact our business activities may have on the environment and lowering our carbon emissions through our carbon reduction plan to support our net-zero 2050 goal.

As part of this, we provide a variety of options for green commuting as part of our reward package. If any of our employees are keen cyclists, we provide a bikes-for-work scheme, and have lockable storage and showers on site as well. In the winter, we also provide drying facilities for outerwear. We do plenty of challenges to encourage our employees to get pedalling, such as challenges on Love to Ride and RideLondon 100. In fact, we are currently cycling, and walking, a virtual challenge around the Amazon Rainforest.

We provide an electric vehicle (EV) scheme for employees, which is a fully inclusive motoring package that lets employees lease a brand new, fully maintained and insured car for up to four years. We have plenty of onsite charging too: we have invested in additional EV charging points in our car park to encourage more employees to use the facilities.

For public transport users, we provide an interest-free season ticket loan, which can be used for trains and local buses. In the Oxford Science Park, where our offices are located, there is also a car sharing scheme that employees can take advantage of.
