Lagan’s Healthcare, We Are Footprint, Innovation Unit and LAR have signed up to the Salford City Mayor’s Charter as part of a commitment to fairness, inclusivity, and opportunity for all employees.

The Salford City Mayor’s Charter for Employment Standards was designed to help improve conditions for employees and employers across the city. Those that sign up are committed to being a good employer, which can include paying the real living wage, supporting local recruitment or creating inclusive workplaces.

Organisations undergo an application process to ensure they will contribute to making Salford a place where good work thrives, and invest in equality and inclusivity for its workforce. It is open to any private sector business, public sector organisation, voluntary or community organisation and social enterprise based in Salford.

Lagan’s Healthcare signed up to the charter to raise standards and confidence across the care sector. It pays staff above the real living wage and recruits through Salford channels for local residents.

Its sister organisation, Lagan’s Foundation, is real living wage accredited as part of its commitment to fair pay and opportunity. It works with construction contractors to ensure local people benefit from job opportunities and dedicate time each week to schools and colleges in Salford to inspire the next generation of construction professionals.

Innovation Unit focuses on local recruitment by employing staff from Salford, and aims to tackle inequalities, build a more diverse team, and become a disability confident advocate, in addition to its real living wage accreditation and inclusive growth commitment.

LAR tackles barriers to work by recruiting prison leavers and veterans, and offering full training and mentoring support. It provides experience, placements and knowledge-sharing in construction and environmental roles and is working toward real living wage accreditation.

A Salford City Council spokesperson said: “Employers which support the charter benefit from stronger local recruitment pipelines, support with inclusive employment practices, recognition for making Salford a good place to work, and opportunities to collaborate with like-minded organisations.”
