Transport for Wales has introduced access to free sustainable period products in all its stations and offices for menstruating employees.
All of the network’s staff will now have access to free period care products, provided by sustainable period care brand TOTM.
In doing so, the organisation is aiming to help alleviate the stress of periods for staff stemming from job requirements and their working environment. Depending on their role, some employees have experienced challenges from having to plan their working day around toilet breaks to change a sanitary product, particularly if they work shifts, offsite or in a remote location.
Marie Daly, chief customer and culture officer at Transport for Wales, said: “We’re delighted to partner with TOTM to support menstrual wellbeing at work. We know the stigma and silence around periods in the workplace can impact comfort, productivity, and wellbeing. From getting caught short at work to struggling with period pains that disrupt the work day.
“It’s important we address period stigma in Transport for Wales so we can foster better working environments for our menstruating staff. Provision of free sustainable period care is a crucial step in breaking down the stigma and ensuring everyone is comfortable at work.”
