Around a dozen Peterson construction workers based at the Shetland Gas Plant have accepted a pay deal.

The employees, who are members of trade union Unite, work as crane operators, warehouse, general and site services assistants at the gas plant.

They will receive a basic increase backdated to January, along with further rises aligned to offshore energy agreement rates. These will increase their rates of pay from 25% to 38% as of July.

The deal also includes an enhancement of overtime rates, a 12-hour shift payment for all crane operators, and paid lunch breaks for everyone at the gas plant. The total pay package is an increase worth up to 41%.

This was unanimously backed by the workers and represents the first deal after Unite and Peterson signed a recognition agreement.

Sharon Graham, general secretary at Unite, said: “This is a fantastic win for our members, we have delivered a bumper pay deal. It shows yet again that Unite is winning for our members by putting money in their pockets.”

Peterson was contacted for comment prior to publication.
