Offshore workers employed by energy and petroleum firm TotalEnergies have accepted a pay deal worth around £2,500 for 2025.

The workers, based on the firm’s Elgin Franklin and North Alwyn platforms in the North Sea, work in number of roles, such as engineers, control room and senior operators, and mechanical, operation and production technicians.

The around 50 employees overwhelmingly agreed a new pay deal, which was negotiated by trade union Unite. The enhanced offer equates to a 2.25% increase in basic pay, alongside a 5% increase in the offshore allowance.

Employees originally received an offer of a 1.5% basic salary increase, which after being overwhelmingly rejected, was then increased to 1.75%. After another rejection of what they claimed was an unacceptable pay offer, they were balloted by the union for possible strike action between April and early June. Following the announcement of the deal, this has now been averted.

Sharon Graham, general secretary at Unite, said: “By being prepared to stand together and strike, our members at TotalEnergies have secured a substantial uplift in pay. Unite continues to deliver better jobs, pay and conditions for our offshore members.”

John Boland, industrial officer at Unite, added: “Unite’s members employed by TotalEnergies backed this deal across the Elgin Franklin and North Alwyn platforms. Our members were fully prepared to take strike action but this was avoided because the company made a better offer which our members overwhelmingly accepted.”
