Costa Coffee is to increase pay for its more than 15,000 employees across its 1,500 UK organisation-owned stores from 1 April.
Its national starting rate of pay for its baristas will increase from £12 per hour to £12.60, while its barista maestros, who are team leaders and coffee trainers, will see their hourly pay increase by an average of almost 5%, from £12.33 to £12.93. Those who complete role-specific training will see their hourly rate boosted by a further 50p to £13.43.
Employees based in central London will receive an extra £1 per hour than the national rate, with the barista starting rate rising to £13.60 per hour and the barista maestro rate increasing to £13.93. Additionally, once role-specific training has been completed, the rate will rise to £14.43.
All UK employees in organisation-owned stores will receive a pay uplift. High-performing store teams are also offered targeted bonuses.
This £8 million investment is part of Costa Coffee’s efforts to ensure its staff continue to receive a sustainable pay rate that takes into account the cost of living.
Nick Orrin, UK and Ireland managing director of Costa Coffee, said: “At Costa Coffee, our expert baristas and dedicated store teams are the driving force behind everything we do. This latest pay increase reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in and supporting our people. We are proud to recognise the passion, talent, and hard work they bring to their roles every day, ensuring exceptional experiences for our customers.”
Costa Coffee’s employee benefits include a buy-one-get-one-free share incentive plan, a 50% in-store discount, discounts on household purchases, bills, and entertainment, up to 10% matching on pension contributions, income protection, life assurance, a bikes-for-work scheme, free Costa coffee while on shift, and access to the Costa Financial Support Fund for unexpected or urgent financial pressures.
