Nearly 1,200 Princess Yachts workers based in Plymouth have accepted a 6.5% pay rise, following a successful ballot for industrial action.

The workers, who are members of trade union Unite, voted in favour of strike action after receiving word that their wages would stay the same during pay negotiations.

Following the strike ballot, the organisation put forward a 6.5% pay offer due to take effect from September, which the workers voted to accept.

The pay rise will result in Princess Yachts’ employees on the lowest pay grades seeing their wages increase by between £2,000 and £3,000 a year.

No strike action was either scheduled or took place due to the workers’ successful negotiations with their employer.

Sharon Graham, general secretary at Unite, said: “This is a huge victory for the Princess Yachts workers, who by sticking together in their union and voting for strike action forced the employer back to the table. This is yet another example of how Unite’s absolute dedication to improving jobs, pay and condition is paying dividends for our members.”
