Delivery firm WNDirect has introduced new benefits for its 80 employees and has been accredited as a living wage employer by the Living Wage Foundation.
In December 2015, the organisation introduced a volunteering programme for its employees and regular desk massages for office-based staff.
It also launched WNVoice, an initiative that gives each of its workers an opportunity to express their views about Wndirect as an employer.
WNDirect committed to paying all its staff, third party contractors and suppliers at least the living wage rate of £8.25 an hour in December 2015. It gained the living wage accreditation in January 2016.
The living wage is a voluntary rate calculated according to the basic cost of living in the UK. It is significantly higher than the national minimum wage of £6.70 an hour, and is distinct from the government’s statutory national living wage rate of £7.20, which will come into effect in April 2016 for employees aged 25 and over.
WNDirect also recently opened new offices in Heathrow, Greater London, which include a larger kitchen area and a social space with sofas with the aim of creating a more engaging environment for staff.
Stuart Hill, chief executive officer at WNDirect, said: “Wndirect, and the people in it, are energetic and dynamic and we wanted to embrace those characteristics while recognising that when people work hard they also need a space to take a break and get some headspace.”
Amy Collins, director of marketing, talent and culture at WNDirect, added: “We have a number of initiatives designed to recognise and reward staff. However, we appreciate that, at the end of the day, salary is a significant factor in most people’s lives and we wanted to ensure that everyone that comes to work at Wndirect not only recognises the opportunities but also feels appreciated and respected from the outset.”
