Claire Eckett, HR manager, rewards and benefits at the University of Reading, will share her experiences of launching a recognition programme on a limited budget during a session at Employee Benefits Live.
The session, ‘Motivation and recognition schemes to drive productivity’, will cover why the university introduced the scheme, how it achieved this on a limited budget, and the importance of having a responsive reward and recognition scheme.
Eckett said: “[The programme] has been really well received, and it’s something we’ve been able to use to enhance our reward arrangements.”
For instance, the University of Reading added a salary sacrifice arrangement to its pension scheme in August 2012, and was able to use the savings to launch an employee assistance programme for all staff.
“When we implemented salary sacrifice on pension contributions that generated a lot of savings, and [I would advise employers] to try to think ahead so that in the business plan they can incorporate that they want to ring fence some of the savings generated for a future project,” said Eckett.
Employee Benefits Live will be held at Olympia National in London on 24 and 25 September 2014.
