Something for the weekend: Employee of the month awards can be a great form of staff recognition for organisations. It turns out, though, that not every employer chooses a human for this!

A hardware store in California, US has gone viral after a customer shared her experience with a friendly staff member, who happened to be a chocolate Labrador dog.

After visiting Westgate Ace Hardware in San Jose, TikTok user @snehaonice posted a video, that has now been viewed more than 1.7 million times, of a chocolate Labrador dog named Nala, who she met there.

The video shows the dog wagging her tail and following the woman around from the moment she entered the shop because she had dog treats in her pocket.

Nala was also wearing a tag, which identified her as an employee of the store. She was well behaved throughout the woman’s visit, and even sat in exchange for treats.

The woman wrote over the video: “POV [you] go to Ace Hardware and meet the sweetest employee Nala. She wouldn’t stop following me around [because] she smelled the treats in my pocket. Once she knows you have treats, she’s your best friend and will follow you around the whole store.”

She added in the caption that she “thought I inherited another dog, but she was so good and stopped following as we left the store!”

Users zoomed to the comment section, with one writing: “Please tell us she’s gotten employee of the month,” and another suggesting: “She’s probably the reason they started doing employee of the month.”

Another joked: “That’s the general manager. By that I mean she generally manages to ask for treats,” while someone else stated: “I have no need for anything at Ace Hardware but I fear it’d be my new home if this happened to me.”

What a cute furry employee of the month. We imagine Nala’s employee benefits include dog treats and cuddles!
