Global life sciences organisation Abcam introduced a recognition strategy to reward its employees that live out its values and display exceptional moments of hard work.
The culture at Abcam has always been important to the organisation, with the business working to the key values of dedication, audacity and agility.
Based on these key values, in December 2018 Abcam set out to create an employee recognition strategy to reward those that foster good values and recognise those that showcase exceptional efforts of hard work and teamwork.
As a result, the organisation rolled out a recognition scheme, provided by Benefex, to all 1,400 employees globally to ensure that every employee can be recognised where appropriate.
Chris Laughlin, reward director at Abcam, says: "It was a dedicated recognition platform that enabled us to highlight key behaviours, and give people the opportunity to recognise each other for their efforts.
"In December 2019 we also released a new feature on top of our recognition strategy, called Abcam Recognise, where [we] can align employees with which key value they have excelled in, then it is sent to everyone within the organisation."
The line manager and the recipient receive separate notifications that this nomination has happened. Every recognition nomination is also screened on office TV screens.
"It's been fantastic and easy to use; the engagement that we've received through introducing this platform has been phenomenal," adds Laughlin. "The level of engagement has surpassed our expectation of the usage."
During the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, Abcam has placed a spotlight on recognising employees who have gone the extra mile for its customers and for each other, creating a prize draw for employees that have been recognised, with the winners being rewarded with online store vouchers.
