The idea that workers hate Monday more than any other day of the week is just a myth, according to research by Gallup and Stony Brook University in New York.

The study looked at the effect of each day of the week on positive and negative moods. It found that negative moods were no worse on Monday than any other day of the working week, except rather unsurprisingly, Friday when the mood of those questioned lifted ahead of the weekend. The research also found that people experienced better moods on Saturday and Sunday.

The poll, carried out by Gallup, questioned 340,000 people in the United States and the data was analysed by two researchers from Stony Brook University. The results were published in the Journal of Positive Psychology.
