Clown

Something for the weekend: London-based team building organisation Team Tactics is seeking to hire 10 clowns across the UK, paying £100 an hour to prank unwitting employees for Halloween.

Team Tactics wishes to hire 10 individuals who can impersonate famed clowns such as Pennywise, from horror author Stephen King’s novel It, Wrinkles, a real-life Florida-based clown known for scaring children, and iconic DC Comics character, the Joker.

For £100 an hour, members of the public can book a clown to visit the workplaces of their friends and family, scaring relatives and colleagues alike for a Halloween prank. The event will be filmed, so that shocked staff can relive their experience after the initial scare.

Although Team Tactics say that acting training is not essential in order to be a successful clown, the organisation does require applicants to have a physical resemblance to their chosen comedic counterpart. For example, those who wish to act as Pennywise should have a large forehead and a high-pitched voice, while clowns wishing to mirror the Joker should be slim and able to carry off a manic laugh.

To apply for this laughable role, candidates must provide a photo of themselves, explain which clown they would like to play and submit a short paragraph on why they feel they would make a good, scary clown.

A total of 10 individuals will be hired, to cover all the major regions in the UK. Team Tactics will mail relevant costumes to successful scare-mongerers.

Individuals can hire the clowns between 28 and 31 October 2019.

Tina Benson, managing director at TeamTactics.co.uk, said: “Halloween, although traditionally an American holiday, has soared in popularity in the UK over the years, and for good reason. It’s a fun celebration of all things spooky, and let's be honest, lots of people love the adrenaline rush of being scared or the thrill of scaring a friend. So, we thought we’d introduce something that ticks both these boxes.

“We’re amazed at the massive demand we’ve had for the clown scaring service, we knew it would be popular, but there’s a lot of colleagues out there who can’t wait to see their work friend get spooked. And, the best part? We’ll catch it all on camera. Now, all we need is some seriously scary clowns to help cater to all the requests we have; I encourage any person who can pull off a creepy clown to apply, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Here at Employee Benefits, we would not appreciate a visit from any of these terrifying characters, as our editorial team is decidedly coulrophobic. We are off to scope out office hiding places, just in case…
