Asian-inspired restaurant chain Wagamama has joined the endometriosis-friendly employer scheme as part of its pledge to support employees impacted by endometriosis.
As part of the scheme, which is run by the charity Endometriosis UK, Wagamama will improve its support for those affected, as well as break down taboos and stigmas around menstrual health.
It will appoint endometriosis champions, who will receive training from the charity. This will enable them to provide support, information and a community for those affected by endometriosis to its 7,800-strong workforce.
The employer will also train its managers and ensure that employees who experience the mental and physical impacts of endometriosis, and other menstrual health conditions, know what support is available. This can include dedicated policies, health insurance plans and employee assistance programmes.
It decided to join the scheme to address the time it takes for people to receive a diagnosis in the UK, and to help with a lack of understanding of the disease.
John Conyers, kaizen culture lead at Wagamama, said: “We’re delighted to join the endometriosis-friendly employer scheme to ensure we can start to better understand and support those in the workplace with endometriosis, as well as break down taboos about menstrual health. We look forward to working with Endometriosis UK, and hope that we’ll inspire others to join the scheme as well.”
Wagamama also offers access to perks and discounts at retailers and cinemas, a free meal on shift, a 50% staff discount and 30% discount at other The Restaurant Group brands, long-service awards, reduced rate car parking season tickets, hospitality discounts, a bikes-for-work scheme, access to confidential support and guidance from accredited counsellors, discounted gym membership for staff and their families, and financial wellbeing support.
