Food and drink manufacturer PepsiCo UK and pharmaceutical firm Pfizer UK have made the Top UK Employers list for 2023.
The Top Employers Institute compiled the list by reviewing HR policies and people practices across organisations around the world, including 99 UK organisations.
In order to achieve certification, participating organisations’ HR practices were assessed by the institute through its HR best practices survey. This covered six HR domains, including people strategy, work environment, talent acquisition, learning, wellbeing, and diversity and inclusion. The information was then validated and audited independently to ensure the integrity of the processes and data.
Other employers included on the Top UK Employers list included facilities management firm Mitie and tyre manufacturer Apollo Tyres UK.
According to the institute, Mitie’s entry stood out with the introduction of benefits available for all 68,000 colleagues, including 24/7 access to a virtual GP service, life assurance, and salary advance. It was also recognised for its focus on learning, development and career progression, placing these at the centre of its HR practices with the introduction of a dedicated development toolkit.
Meanwhile, Apollo Tyres UK achieved an 81% rating overall for its UK operation, scored 100% for performance management and also received strong results for its staff development and learning practices.
David Plink, chief executive officer of the Top Employers Institute, said: “Exceptional times bring out the best in people and organisations. And we have witnessed this in our Top Employers Certification Programme this year: exceptional performance from the certified Top Employers 2023. These employers have always shown that they care for the development and well-being of their people. By doing so, they collectively enrich the world of work. We are proud to announce and celebrate this year’s group of leading people-oriented employers.”
Jasmine Hudson, chief people officer at Mitie, added: “Being recognised as a UK Top Employer for the fifth year running is testament to our continued commitment to supporting and investing in our employees’ wellbeing and development. We are committed to being the employer of choice in the facilities management industry and I am so proud of the strides we have taken to make Mitie a great place to work.”
Neeraj Kanwar, managing director and vice chairman of Apollo Tyres, said: “It demonstrates that we are investing heavily in the skills, welfare and progression of our UK staff. It shows our strong values and what a rewarding, exciting and expanding place we are to work. I believe it will help us attract yet more top talent.”
