Global insurance intermediary group Howden has agreed to acquire Hymans Robertson’s insurance and financial services (IFS) consulting team (IFS) to strengthen its specialist insurance actuarial and longevity consulting capabilities.
The transaction, which is expected to complete in the spring, marks the launch of Howden Insurance Actuarial and Longevity (Howden IAL). This brings together the Hymans Robertson IFS specialists and the insurance actuarial and longevity experts who joined Howden through the Barnett Waddingham (BW) transition.
Howden IAL will offer deeper expertise, clearer technical insight and a more scaled advisory platform. It combines BW’s work in delivering outsourced insurance actuarial services and consultancy with the Hymans IFS team’s experience supporting insurers with actuarial and risk projects, creating an adviser for core insurance actuarial and longevity needs.
It will also offer insurers support on pricing, capital allocation, reserving, risk and investment strategy, model validation, and longevity risk management. Insurers will be able to navigate complex regulatory, capital and market environments with specialist support.
There will be a team of 90 specialist consultants to support insurers all insurance actuarial and longevity needs.
Glenn Thomas, chief executive officer and global practice leader, health & employee benefits at Howden, said: “By bringing together BW’s longstanding insurance actuarial capability with the Hymans Robertson IFS team’s proven expertise in delivering strategically critical projects, we are creating an advisory proposition for clients. We are investing in their long‑term development and strengthening our ability to support clients with deeper insight and a more distinctive proposition.”
Scott Eason, managing partner at Howden Insurance Actuarial and Longevity, added: “By uniting two teams, we are creating an advisory capability with the breadth and depth to support every critical client need across the insurance landscape. This is a significant step in Howden’s long‑term ambition to build a world‑class insurance advisory practice.”
Jon Hatchett, senior partner, Hymans Robertson said: “We are proud of the strength and reputation of our IFS team and are confident that the newly formed team’s combined skills and Howden’s global reach will deliver a broader service offering for insurance clients.”
