Scottish Borders-based tartan manufacturer Lochcarron of Scotland has become an accredited living wage employer.
Its commitment will see all of its employees, including regular workers employed through third-party suppliers, receive a minimum hourly wage of £12.60 per hour. This rate is higher than the government minimum for workers aged 21 and over, which currently stands at £12.21 per hour.
Through its real living wage commitment, the employer aims to demonstrate that it values its staff for the hard work they do. The accreditation is also part of an ambition of a local action group of living wage employers, who are working towards making the Scottish Borders a living wage region.
Dawn Robson-Bell, managing director at Lochcarron of Scotland, said: “I am incredibly proud to announce that we are now a living wage employer. This achievement reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting our team and creating a fair and respectful workplace for everyone. It reinforces our belief that investing in our people is the key to long term success.”
Sarah Clark, HR manager at Lochcarron of Scotland, added: “Over the years we have been committed to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive, and we are proud to have reached a major milestone by becoming a living wage employer. This achievement reflects our values and the incredible dedication, hard work and support shown by our entire team. While it directly benefits some of our employees, it is a positive step forward for all of us at Lochcarron.”
Seonaid Mann, co-chair of Scottish Borders Living Wage Action Group, said: “This milestone towards the continuing development of a fair working environment for all its staff reflects its commitment to help them achieve long-term financial security. By committing to the living wage, it is demonstrating that investing in people is the right thing to do. Ensuring that everyone can earn a wage that reflects the true cost of living is fundamental to building a sustainable future where everyone can thrive.”
