Digital learning and human capital management systems firm Mintra has received the Leading with Kindness award at the HR Network Scotland Awards 2024.
The accolade celebrates an organisation, team or individual that has demonstrated a kinder approach through empathetic leadership and showing genuine care and concern for staff or customers, with a positive impact on performance.
Mintra was recognised for its commitment to fostering a workplace culture centered around empathy, compassion, positive impact, empowerment and individual growth.
To achieve this, it embedded kindness into its leadership approach by training managers to balance task-oriented skills with emotional intelligence. It also established a wellbeing committee tasked with promoting positive social interaction and proactively addressing employees’ emotional needs. Through training, access to support resources and team-building activities, the firm fostered psychological safety and collaboration.
Mintra additionally aims to incorporate kindness into awareness initiatives for International Women’s Day, Neurodiversity Celebration Week, and Employee Appreciation Day. Its recognition initiatives include shout-outs during team talks, on its Mintra Net internal communications hub, and peer-to-peer acknowledgement programmes.
This resulted in a low voluntary turnover rate of under 2% in 2023 and an employee engagement score of nearly 80%, underscoring the value of kindness as a driver of retention, engagement and performance.
Amy Reid, global people and culture director at Mintra, said: “This approach has enhanced employee wellbeing and reinforced the importance of empathetic leadership as a critical factor for organisational success. This award is an acknowledgement of the way our leadership team have embraced the change and embedded it into Mintra.”
Kevin Short, chief executive officer at Mintra, added: “Winning the Leading with Kindness Award is a testament to the dedication and character of our people. At Mintra, we believe kindness is more than just a value, it’s a strategy that drives success for our employees, customers, and communities. We are honoured to be recognised for our efforts and will continue to build a workplace where kindness thrives.”
