Browne Jacobson has introduced a bikes-for-work scheme as part of its initiatives to promote health and wellbeing, and to support environmental issues.
The new scheme, launched at the beginning of March with Evans Cycles, gives the law firm’s 440 eligible employees the chance to choose and purchase a new bike through salary sacrifice.
Through the scheme, Browne Jacobson funds the initial cost of the bike and deductions are taken from an employee’s gross pay over a 12-month period, bringing them tax and national insurance (NI) savings.
The law firm implemented the bikes-for-work scheme as a result of campaigning from its green champions, a committee of employees interested in environmental matters, and interest raised through an employee engagement survey.
It promoted the scheme through its annual health and wellbeing benefits fairs, where Evans Cycles promoted details of the scheme, as well as through emails, posters around the office buildings and on its intranet site. The green champions also continue to promote the scheme within their teams.
Brown Jacobson also held wine and cheese launch evenings in conjunction with Evans Cycles.
Kelly Tatton, HR advisor at Browne Jacobson, said: “We are very keen to support environmental initiatives and it is great to work with our green champions, as it is clearly something they feel very passionately about.
“Within the firm, staff are more conscious than ever of trying to leave the car at home while commuting to work. As a firm we are incredibly keen on supporting and promoting health and wellbeing, so for us it means staff get fitter and save money on their travel into work."
