Opticians Specsavers has joined the Employers for Carers scheme in order to support its employees who juggle work with caring responsibilities.
Through the Employers for Carers membership scheme, which is supported by the charity Carers UK, Specsavers employees who are working carers will be able to access resources such as e-learning, factsheets, guides and toolkits to help them understand their rights, identify support and look after their own health and wellbeing. The e-learning modules include an introduction to caring, line manager training and carer aware training.
They will also be able to use the care coordination app Jointly, which combines group messaging with to-do and medication lists and calendars.
Specsavers staff with line management, HR or employee wellbeing responsibilities will be able to access a digital platform that offers specialised knowledge and guidance to support carers and help to retain key talent. This includes essential guides, toolkits, legislation updates, good- practice examples and sample policies to support working carers and provide them with assistance.
Employers for Carers also provides a monthly newsletter with the latest news, practical advice and support to help develop carer-friendly workplaces and retain skilled workers.
Helen Davies, people director, optics at Specsavers, said: “We understand the unique challenges placed upon people with caring responsibilities and the added pressure this can place on our employees as they strive to balance this. At Specsavers, we are committed to fostering a compassionate and inclusive workplace. This is why we are proud to join the Employers for Carers membership forum, ensuring that we provide the necessary resources and support to help our working carers effectively balance their professional and personal lives.”
