Decorating business Brewers Group has enhanced paid family policies for its employees, which will take effect from April.

Its occupational maternity leave pay for eligible staff will increase to six weeks of 100% pay, followed by 20 weeks at 75% pay and 13 weeks of statutory maternity pay (SMP). It previously offered maternity leave of six weeks at 100% pay, followed by 10 weeks of 75%, 10 weeks of 50% and 13 weeks of SMP.

Meanwhile, the organisation’s occupational paid paternity leave for eligible employees will rise to two weeks at 100% pay and two weeks at 75% pay, from two weeks of 100% pay and two weeks of 50%.

Employees with less than one year of service will be entitled to up to two weeks of leave equivalent to statutory paternity pay from day one of employment. Additionally, the updates to maternity and paternity pay rates will be reflected in Brewers’ rates for enhanced shared parental and adoption leave.

Brewers is also introducing a paid element to carer’s leave, to support its staff who provide care, assistance and support to an individual who may be seriously ill or unable to care for themselves. From 1 April, Brewers will introduce occupational pay for carers at 50% pay for up to five days leave in a 12-month period, an increase from five unpaid days in a 12-month period.

Jane Clifford, people director at Brewers, said: “We want to ensure employees at the Brewers Group are supported at key points in their lives, whether that be starting a family or acting as a carer for a loved one. I am pleased that we have been able to further enhance the pay we offer for employees taking maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental leave. We have also introduced a pay element to carer’s leave. These changes complement our existing wide-ranging and supportive benefits, which we hope support employees during life-changing events and making their day-to-day life a bit easier.”
