Just over a third (34%) of respondents are concerned about work-related stress, according to research by health and safety consultancy Arinite.

Stress at work

Its study of 1,755 UK adults between the ages of 25 and 64 also found that a third are worried about the possibility of suffering from physical or mental health problems at work.

More than a quarter (28%) of respondents are concerned about the strain that working at a screen has on their eyes, 22% are concerned about back or neck injuries and 18% are worried about repetitive strain injuries.

Robert Winsloe, managing director at Arinite, said: “This goes back to the age old adage about ‘a problem shared is a problem halved’. If an employee experiences health and safety concerns in the workplace and is willing to report it, there is a good chance something will be done to address the problem.

“Stress levels are on the rise generally. Everybody working today is being asked to deliver way more than they were five, 10 or 20 years ago.”

Employee Benefits hosted the first in a new series of live webinars, Employee Benefits Wired, on 28 April. It focused on workplace mental health issues, such as stress.
