More than 5,000 employees from Lloyds Banking Group are to volunteer in their local communities on 16 May as part of Business in the Community’s (BITC) annual Give and Gain Day.
Give and Gain Day is an annual event run by BITC and is the UK’s only national day of employee volunteering. Participating employers allow staff the day off to volunteer in schools, youth groups, day centres, homeless shelters and charities.
More than 1,000 employees from Lloyds Banking Group will volunteer at Community Games events to help support thousands of children find a sport they love.
Another 600 employees will work in seven locations and support the Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland projects.
Graham Lindsay, director, responsible business and community affairs at Lloyds Banking Group, said: “One of the best ways organisations can support their local communities is by encouraging employees, customers and suppliers to use their skills and time through volunteering.
“Through our Helping Britain Prosper Plan we are committed to being the banking group that brings communities closer together to help them thrive.
“Give and Gain Day provides the perfect focal point for our employees to help us achieve this ambition.”
BT Group and Waitrose are also among the 200 organisations taking part in the day.
Stephen Howard, chief executive of BITC, added: “Last year alone 46,000 volunteers from hundreds of organisations gave half a million hours of their time to support our campaigning work, so we know first-hand how invaluable corporate support is to charities, businesses, employees and communities.
“By genuinely encouraging and enabling staff to volunteer, an organisation sends a clear message that it values responsible behaviour and takes its contract with society seriously.”
