Medics employed by United Healthcare Global Medical UK who work on Shell UK’s North Sea oil and gas platforms have accepted a pay increase.
Trade union Unite represents around a dozen offshore medics who provide essential medial cover on the oil giant’s platforms. They work on the Gannet Alpha, Shearwater, Nelson, Sole Pit Clipper and Leman Alpha platforms.
The medics have accepted a pay increase of 3.7%, which is worth an extra £2,500 over the year. As part of the deal, they will also receive a 2% pension increase and extended income protection insurance.
Employees voted in favour of the pay offer after rejecting a previous one from their employer.
Sharon Graham, general secretary at Unite, said: “The United Healthcare medics have secured a significant increase in pay and boost to working conditions. It’s another demonstration of Unite delivering better jobs, pay and conditions for our offshore members.”
John Boland, industrial officer at Unite, added: “The medics provide a critical offshore service and it’s great that their value to Shell’s offshore platforms has been recognised in this pay deal overwhelmingly backed by Unite’s members.”
