More than 450 Stagecoach bus workers based in Oldham have agreed to an improvement in their pay and conditions following negotiations.
The discussions between the employer and the union Unite, which represents the employees, resulted in a 6.25% pay increase and an additional five days of holiday, along with a major improvement in their sick pay.
Before the agreement was finalised, members took part in a ballot regarding whether they should take industrial action, with 87% of them voting to accept the offer.
A Stagecoach spokesperson said: “We are pleased to have reached an agreement with our Oldham staff. Stagecoach Manchester remains committed to supporting its staff and ensuring we continue to deliver reliable and high-quality service to customers. We are keen to welcome more drivers at the Oldham depot team offering a strong career and extended benefits.”
Sharon Graham, general secretary at Unite, added: “Congratulations to our members whose steadfast determination to better their pay and conditions is inspiring. This deal goes to show that Unite will always strive to improve our members’ pay and conditions.”

Employees at Stagecoach Oldham are entitled to benefits and perks such as discounts on high street brands, restaurants, hotels, days out, and cinemas visit, a minimum of 28 days paid holiday, a pension, and free Stagecoach bus travel for them and a companion. They are also guaranteed 38 minimum hours per week plus overtime, different shift patterns are available so that employees can fit work around their commitments, and earnings that increase on weekends and bank holidays.
