Supermarket chain Morrisons has announced that it will award its supermarket and manufacturing employees a pay rise

The pay deal is for Morrisons staff who are covered by the national agreement with trade union Usdaw. A ballot that took place earlier this month saw 91.87% of members vote in favour of the deal.

The pay award will be implemented in three phases.

From Monday 30 March, the rate of pay for a customer assistant will increase to £12.81, and all other hourly rates for roles covered by this agreement will increase by 10 pence.

As of Monday 20 July, the rate of pay for a customer assistant will rise from £12.81 to £13, and all other hourly rates for roles covered by this agreement will rise by 19 pence.

From Monday 26 October, the rate of pay for a customer assistant will increase from £13 to £13.11, and all other hourly rates for roles covered by this agreement will increase by 11 pence.

In addition, all eligible hourly paid staff will receive a one-off fixed payment of between £25 and £175 based on their contractual hours.

Morrisons previously increased its customer assistant pay rate from £12.21 to £12.71 on Monday 30 March, as the new national living wage came into effect.

Jodie Keating, group people director of Morrisons, said: “We’re pleased that we can now implement the pay proposal and increase pay for our employees to reward them for the contribution they make to our business. I would like to thank all our staff for everything they continue to do for Morrisons.”

An Usdaw spokesperson added: “This offer has been overwhelmingly accepted by the Usdaw membership in Morrisons. While this year’s review has been a prolonged process, we have demonstrated the power of solidarity and the benefit of collective bargaining.”
