Supermarket Asda will award its 110,000 hourly-paid retail employees a 4% pay rise.

All hourly‑paid employees in its Asda Retail and Asda Express stores will receive the pay increase in two stages.

Its national rate will increase from £12.60 to £12.71 from 1 April and to £13.10 from 5 July. Meanwhile, those based at stores within the M25 will see their pay rise from £13.82 to £13.93 from 1 April and £14.35 from 5 July.

This latest award represents an investment of £80 million and takes the total amount Asda has invested in retail pay, since its acquisition by TDR Capital and the Issa brothers in 2021, to £575 million. During this time, retail hourly pay rates have increased by 40%, from £9.36 to £13.10.

James Goodman, chief people officer at Asda, said: “Our store‑based employees are at the core of our business and the role they play serving customers is central to our Formula for Growth turnaround plan. I’m pleased we’ve been able to give them an above‑inflation pay award and invest in this way. I’d also like to thank them for their continued hard work and commitment to making Asda better every day.”

Asda also offers its employees eight free physiotherapy consultations a year for themselves and their partner, a 15% staff discount, a free 24/7 remote GP service for them, their partner and children, a car cash allowance for eligible staff, an electric car salary sacrifice scheme, free eye tests, and a bikes-for-work scheme.

It also provides financial support, mortgage advice, a free 24/7 confidential support helpline, cancer support, mental health support, hybrid working, life assurance, high street discounts, and a holiday purchase scheme.
