Something for the weekend: Actor Letitia Wright has been named by movie ticket website Fandango as the highest box-office earning star of 2018, but she does not feature on the top ten list of best-paid actors.
Wright has featured in a string of hit movies, including Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, The Commuter and Ready Player One; when combined, these blockbusters have earned $1.55 billion at the box office.
Earning a collective second place on Fandango's list with $1.38 billion are Chadwick Boseman, Winston Duke, Danai Gurira, Florence Kasumba and Sebastian Stan. Third, fourth and fifth are Samuel L Jackson, Chris Pratt and Josh Brolin.
However, Wright hinted via her Twitter account that her personal pay does not necessarily reflect her box-office Midas touch. "Just deposit that amount into my bank account," she remarked wistfully.
Indeed, Wright is conspicuous by her absence on Forbes' list of the top 10 highest-paid actors, as are the other top box-office draws listed by Fandango.
According to Forbes, George Clooney was the highest-earning actor in 2018, despite not starring in a single film during the year. However, his partnership with Nespresso and the sale of his own tequila company enabled him to take the top spot even without the benefits of a blockbuster.
Here at Employee Benefits, we think it is time for the movie studios to do the Wright thing and pay up...
