US-based supermarket retailer Hy-Vee is giving its front-line store employees a 10% bonus to recognise their hard work during the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.
All full- and part-time store-based employees will receive the bonus, calculated based on the hours worked from 16 March to 12 April 2020; this will then be paid on 17 April.
Hy-Vee has also stated that any of its 80,000 employees who are suffering from Coronavirus, or have been ordered by health professionals to go into quarantine, will receive job protection for a minimum of two weeks, while full-time staff enrolled into short-term disability groups will receive a minimum of two weeks' paid leave.
The organisation is also providing staff with access to telehealth services, including mental health support; full-time employees can access a free 24-hour virtual medical service, while part-time staff can use the service for a minimal fee per visit.
Randy Edeker, chairman, chief executive, and president at Hy-Vee said: “Our employees are our most valuable asset, and we must do everything we can to support them and their families during this critical time.
“We hope these new benefits will help lighten the load for our employees who are working around-the-clock to serve our customers in our stores.”
