The increase was primarily driven by the organisation hiring a number of LGBTQ+ employees at the start of their careers.
Its mean sexual orientation bonus gap for 2024 was 35.3%, down from 43.3% in 2023, and its median sexual orientation bonus gap stood at 23.1%, a decrease from 32.3% previously. A total of 75.4% of employees who identify as being LGBTQ+ and 81.1% of those do not received a bonus in 2024.
Alex Mahon, chief executive at Channel 4, said: “We are committed to removing any barriers to progression and increasing representation. The remaining gap is driven by a slight underrepresentation of women in the top half of the organisation, and a higher proportion of women in the lower two pay quarters. If the lower half of the organisation were rebalanced to 50% male and 50% female, the mean gender pay gap would reduce by around 14 points, from 16.2% to around 1.8%.”
